Interview questions from the actual work
Updated
Problem it solves
Interviews drift into “tell me about yourself” and you learn nothing about the work.
Best tool
- ChatGPT (free chat)
- Claude (free chat)
- Gemini (free chat)
- Copilot (free chat)
The free chat is enough for one draft. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and the free Microsoft Copilot chat can each do this. A paid plan only helps if you hit a usage limit. Copilot inside Word, Excel, or Outlook is a separate paid Microsoft 365 feature. You do not need it to try this once.
Copy-paste prompt
Write 8 interview questions for this job. Each question should map to a task below. For each, say what a complete answer includes. Do not ask about age, family, health, religion, or where someone was born. Do not score a real person. This is only the question list. Job: [title] Tasks: [the real work] What "good" looks like here: [your notes]
Replace every [bracket]. If you cannot fill one, delete that line.
Example output
A usable draft is eight questions about the work, each with a note on what you are listening for. It is not a score for a named candidate.
Tips
- Do not paste a candidate’s resume and ask the tool to judge them.
- If a question is not about the work, drop it even if it sounds friendly.
Time saved
Estimate: a question list is a short prep. The interview itself is not shorter because the questions were drafted.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt. Copy the prompt on this page into a free chat.
- Fill every bracket. Replace each [bracket] with a fact from your own notes. If you cannot fill one, delete that line instead of guessing.
- Edit before you use it. Read the draft against your notes. Delete any price, date, name, or promise you did not supply. You decide what gets sent.
Where this came from
- Original to this library.
