First-gift thank-you note
Updated
Problem it solves
A first gift deserves a specific note. The generic receipt does not say what the money does.
Best tool
- ChatGPT (free chat)
- Claude (free chat)
- Gemini (free chat)
- Copilot (free chat)
The free chat is enough for one draft. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and the free Microsoft Copilot chat can each do this. A paid plan only helps if you hit a usage limit. Copilot inside Word, Excel, or Outlook is a separate paid Microsoft 365 feature. You do not need it to try this once.
Copy-paste prompt
Draft a thank-you note to a donor who gave for the first time, mentioning what their gift pays for: [details]
Replace every [bracket]. If you cannot fill one, delete that line.
Example output
A usable draft thanks them, names the gift amount only if you typed it, and says what that gift pays for in words you supplied. No inflated impact claim.
Tips
- If you do not know what the gift pays for, do not let the draft invent a program result.
- This is a note a person sends. It is not a tax receipt unless you already issue one.
Time saved
Estimate: one note is a few minutes. A stack of notes is mostly gathering the facts, which this prompt does not do for you.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt. Copy the prompt on this page into a free chat.
- Fill every bracket. Replace each [bracket] with a fact from your own notes. If you cannot fill one, delete that line instead of guessing.
- Edit before you use it. Read the draft against your notes. Delete any price, date, name, or promise you did not supply. You decide what gets sent.
