Ideal customer and where they talk
Updated
Problem it solves
“Everyone in town” is not a customer. You need a specific person and the places they already are.
Best tool
- ChatGPT (free chat)
- Claude (free chat)
- Gemini (free chat)
- Copilot (free chat)
The free chat is enough for one draft. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and the free Microsoft Copilot chat can each do this. A paid plan only helps if you hit a usage limit. Copilot inside Word, Excel, or Outlook is a separate paid Microsoft 365 feature. You do not need it to try this once.
Copy-paste prompt
Describe my ideal customer in 5 bullet points, then list 10 places online where people like that show up and what they talk about: [describe business]
Replace every [bracket]. If you cannot fill one, delete that line.
Example output
A usable draft is five bullets about the customer you described, and ten places or topics. Treat the places as hypotheses. Check that they exist before you spend money there.
Tips
- Describe a customer you have actually served. Do not ask for a fantasy demographic with income stats you do not have.
- A list of websites is not a lead list and not permission to scrape one.
Time saved
Estimate: the five bullets are a short exercise. Checking ten places is the longer part, and the prompt does not do the checking.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt. Copy the prompt on this page into a free chat.
- Fill every bracket. Replace each [bracket] with a fact from your own notes. If you cannot fill one, delete that line instead of guessing.
- Edit before you use it. Read the draft against your notes. Delete any price, date, name, or promise you did not supply. You decide what gets sent.
