ChatGPT’s GPT-6 can answer with a calculator, a form, or a chart

News date . This note explains that announcement. It does not add facts that are not in the sources below.

In plain English

On October 7, 2026, OpenAI said it was bringing a new GPT-6 model to ChatGPT for the more than 1.2 billion people it says use ChatGPT each week. OpenAI said it had introduced the first GPT-6 models for paid customers the month before. That weekly figure is OpenAI’s.

The part that changes everyday work is what OpenAI calls Intelligent UI. ChatGPT can answer with text plus graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts, and other interactive pieces, inside the chat. OpenAI’s examples include a calculator for how savings could grow, a bill splitter for dinner with friends, and a game you can play in the chat. The same post shows a dinner plan whose shopping quantities change when the guest count changes. OpenAI also says that when a simple text answer is the most useful response, ChatGPT can still give you that.

Availability, from that same post: GPT-6 with Intelligent UI was starting to roll out on October 7 to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, in the Chat tab. OpenAI said that starting October 8, the rollout would expand to Free and Go. Enterprise availability depends on workplace admin settings. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise use a model OpenAI calls GPT-6 Sol. Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI says both are tuned for everyday conversation.

This update is the Chat experience. OpenAI says the models powering Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release.

OpenAI also says that for questions that need web search, GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant. That is OpenAI’s comparison, not an independent test. In an internal evaluation of high-value, everyday agentic tasks, OpenAI says GPT-6 Extra High can begin answering in the same amount of time as GPT-5.6 Medium while achieving a better overall score than GPT-5.6 Extra High. Treat both figures as OpenAI’s own measurements.

What it means for your business

If you already use ChatGPT for a quote, a schedule, or “what should I charge,” the useful change is an answer you can click, not only a paragraph you retype into a spreadsheet.

You still check the numbers. A calculator inside the chat is still the model’s output. OpenAI does not say those interactive answers are audited.

A free account may see the update later than a paid one, because OpenAI said Free and Go would start on October 8. Enterprise availability depends on workplace admin settings. If your team uses ChatGPT Work or Codex, this announcement does not change those models.

How to use it

  1. Open ChatGPT on the web or in the app and stay in the Chat tab. OpenAI says this update is the Chat experience, not Work or Codex.
  2. Ask for a tool, not an essay. For example: “Make a calculator for a catering quote. Inputs: guest count, price per person, sales tax, and tip. Show the total.”
  3. Change one input and see whether the total changes. Then check the math yourself, or in a spreadsheet, before you send a price to a customer.
  4. If you do not see buttons or a form, try again later. OpenAI’s October 7 post said Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise were starting that day, and that Free and Go would start on October 8. A rollout can still be incomplete on a given account.
  5. If you manage a company workspace, check the admin settings. OpenAI says Enterprise availability depends on those settings.
  6. Do not paste card numbers, medical details, or a full customer list into the chat. Use figures you would already put on a menu or a public price list for the first test.
