Seven AI products built in Charleston

Do you have to look to Silicon Valley for AI tools? Some of the ones getting used are built here.

The established names

Blackbaud, on Daniel Island, announced more than 70 AI features in its nonprofit software, including AI-written reports and agents for fundraising work. That’s the company’s own count.

Benefitfocus, also on Daniel Island, launched BenefitSAIGE. It gives employees personalized benefits recommendations and runs a 24/7 benefits chatbot.

Case Status, on Daniel Island, builds AI that drafts client updates and replies for law firms. Staff review every message before it goes out.

Citibot, a Charleston company, built the AI assistants Mount Pleasant and Dorchester County use to answer residents.

The newer ones

Omnisight makes an edge AI traffic sensor on Daniel Island. It reads radar and video 20 times a second to manage intersections and parking.

Atapic, in North Charleston, finds likely prospects for coaches, consultants and service businesses and builds contact lists. It received a $25,000 SCRA startup grant.

Zom AI was started by a College of Charleston student. It pulls a financial adviser’s client data into one view, is built on Anthropic’s Claude, and has raised $500,000, according to the college.

Why it matters to you

Local builders are easier to reach than a help desk in another time zone. If one of these solves a problem you have, you can probably meet the people behind it at a local AI event.
